Select Physicians
AVRECO, a recognized healthcare specialist, introduces a select market for nonstandard physicians and surgeons.
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the program:
- Physicians must carry a current, temporary or permanent medical license issued in the state in which they are practicing and for which they are requesting coverage.
- U.S. medical school graduates or foreign medical school graduates who have completed a residency program in the U.S. and have obtained certification from the Education Council for Medical School Graduates.
- Board certified in their specialty by one of the specialty boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- No history of drug addiction, alcoholism, mental or chronic physical illness
- No past history of revocations/suspensions/denials of hospital privileges or an applicant with such history only if such applicant has successfully completed any probationary period and received no additional such actions within the past thirty six (36) months. In such case, premium is subject to surcharge.
- Must have admitting privileges in a hospital
- No hospital employees
- No coverage for Telemedicine in states other than the practice state
- No history of criminal indictments or convictions.
- The following exposures/specialties are ineligible in this program:
- Bariatric Surgery or physicians specializing in weight control
- LASIK surgeons
- Orthopedic Surgery—including back surgery
- Ophthalmologists performing LASK procedures
- Neurosurgeons specializing in spine surgery
- Emergency room doctors
- Geriatric physicians who are affiliated with, employed by, or under contract to nursing homes or long term care facilities
- Podiatrists
- Gynecologists/Obstetrics—if the practice involves abortion procedures at UW discretion
- Any physician that works for/or is under contract with a state/Federal/county correctional facility
- Chiropractors
- Full-time locum tenens
- Practitioners of Alternative medicine defined as therapeutic practices, which are not considered a part of conventional allopathic medical practice including, but not limited to Chelation Therapy or Homeopathy.
- Pain management (other than board certified anesthesiologists or Neurologists who specialize in pain management)
- Claims (Solo practitioners):
- No more than 1 open claim
- No more than 3 claims within the past seven years
- No more than 2 claims with indemnity payments within the past seven years (open claim(s) count as claims with indemnity payments)
- Claims (Groups of Physicians):
- Underwriters discretion
